Congratulations to Sharmain Harris on being named as one of Kenosha’s “20 under 40” for his work as WIC Father Involvement Coordinator!
The Father Involvement Project, one of the LIHF grantee projects, is now fully integrated into the Racine Kenosha Community Action Agency with support from the WIC program. The Father Involvement Project began as a one-year LIHF developmental grant to explore model fatherhood programs for dads involved with the WIC program.
The 20 under 40 feature in the Kenosha News tells the story of how Sharmain was the only dad to attend the first planning event that launched the project. Sharmain was passionate about getting more involved:
I took action right there. I told them I was sure I could get more guys to come.”
His accomplishments in engaging WIC fathers and men in the community has led to rapid growth and funding for the full-time position. This success story has generated interest throughout the state and country as a strategy for engaging fathers.
…We are role models. We are fathers to all the children in our community.” – Sharmain Harris
