Milwaukee LIHF Collaborative
Action Agenda Priority Topic: Preventing Prematurity

Milwaukee LIHF works to build and maintain a sustainable community collaborative that contributes to the elimination of racial disparities in healthy birth outcomes. United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County has convened leaders from the affected communities, business, nonprofit, faith community, and public sectors to address the issue.

Milwaukee LIHF’s work is being guided by their Community Action Plan to align programs across the city and develop shared metrics.

Spotlight on Milwaukee LIHF Activities

Asking One Key Question® (“Would you like to become pregnant in the next year?”) provides an opportunity for health care providers to start conversations with women about pregnancy long before they get pregnant. One Key Question® was developed by the Oregon Foundation for Reproductive Health and is an implementation project of the Milwaukee LIHF Health Care Access Committee. Read the Committee's blog post about the One Key Question® pilot here.

Milwaukee's No Longer an Island project aimed to develop a leadership and social support network that increases engagement among African American fathers and men through peer mentoring and community health navigators. No Longer an Island was one of 22 projects funded by LIHF in 2013.

The Milwaukee LIHF Collaborative is dedicated to improving community conditions that support healthy birth outcomes.

Our vision is to eliminate the racial disparity in birth outcomes ensuring that all babies blow out their first birthday candle.
